Samenvatting

The Châteaubleau mint (Seine-et-Marne, France), with its three officinae located and partially excavated between 1995 and 2001, is a major illustration of the production of imitations of antoniniani, denarii, and double sestertii in the north-western provinces during the second half of the third century, using both striking and casting. With regard to denarii more specifically, the discoveries made in officina 1, located in the north-western district of the ancient town, illustrate these two methods and the characteristics of the denarii produced: objects used during the striking process, moulds and prototype coins for the casting process, monetary alloys, and the dating of issues.
