Hello my friends,
Can anybody help me with information/determination about this counter token?
weight: 3.5gr
material: cu or brass
diam.: 28mm
One side in the middle a double monogram "M", under it the year 1476. The text that I can read is:+PROTE *GAT?????*MINU????°DOMINI
Other side: shield, text: PROTE????MI?????SUDUM????RAA
I am not sure that is 1476.
The second digit is more likely a 5 (I know that sounds hard to believe, but 4 was not written like this in 1476). But 5 was also unlikely to have been written like that in 1576.
Maybe 1516?
No answer, but a couple of thoughts:
There were some coins made in your part of the world during the regency of Maximilian for Philip the Fair (1480s-1490s) with an M monogram, and Hapsburg coat of arms reverse, but this is not a match. So, maybe it is a token imitating a coin of Maximilian? https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=5055476
Also if the second image was rotated 45 degrees to the right, it would make a
diamond shape in the middle, with a double-headed eagle behind. Maybe.
A drawing with on the right the eagle beak and some feathers. Maybe. Shield Monogram
