Does the 1964 Austria Proof set have an increased value if it is in the original packaging? I would prefer to break it up to help with storage, but don't want to destroy something rare.
I assume that since it has been cut apart, the value has significantly decreased.
The plastic ripped.
Upon closer inspection, I see one coin seems to be poking out of the plastic. I think you might as well crack them out once and for all.
In that packing I would doubt them being PROOF, but uncirculated yes, which is another price range:°

I have never seen proof coins wrapped like that.
Indeed UNC (or less)

US Proof sets from 1950 to 1955 came in sets like this, and have a premium over sets that have been removed from original packaging.

DId they only ship these sets to the USA?

Or they took the coins from the roll and sold them off as Proof:8D

Only one problem, they are proof :8D There is a difference in the finish - mind blown!

On a serious note. I am wondering if that is how they shipped. Given the coins were not encased in plastic and there was nothing to keep the coins from banging around during shipping. Here is an original case here

So the mint would ship the coins in cellophane stapled together to keep them from damage along side the box and the collector was suppose to put them together once they got the package from the mint. And given that many of the coins from the coin shop I go to are very old collections, and chances are this was from the original owner it would make sense.

Other thoughts, besides denying that they are proof?
I can prove that a person cannot fly. A stone cannot fly, because it's heavy. My wife is heavy, hence she cannot fly!

Your argument doesn't hold at all, and of course my wife can fly (with AirFrance!).

Enjoy your argumentsB)

That is certainly NOT the original packaging from the Austrian mint with everything ripped apart and stapled so it is already a moot point.
