Definitely was, would think with silver melt value being higher people would pay more attention to what they're spending but guess not.
Occasionally I still stumble on a silver or two in rolls and change although not as frequently as in years past and it is certainly few and far between.
I havent found any silver this year, but last year, one time,
I bent down in a parking lot to pick up a dime,
and it was a silver one.
this one.

I guess it had been out there a long time.
got the Bermuda nickle in change the same stop.

You would be surprised to find out that a lot of people don't know the value of silver or that older coins have silver in them. During the last 100 years there has only been one coin with silver content in my country in circulation and now that the Euro is in use the chances of getting silver in your change are slim to none.
Yeah, from what I've seen the us is one of few countries where you can still get silver every so often in change. I know u can in Canada & maybe switzerland. Got a Mercury dime a year or so ago in change from McDonalds.
Just this week, I found a 1964 dime in the local CoinStar machine.
About 2 years ago my daughter got a round 1966 Silver 50 cent in change at a Subway sandwich shop here in Brisbane. They are the same size as the 12 sided copper-nickel 50 cent but are still legal tender. They have about AU$15 worth of silver in them.

That is a comparison for you.

Yes, I very occasionally see silver. My situation is similar to brismike's, ie I'm in Australia and sometimes get 1966 50 cent pieces. I work in Retail and on one occasion last year, a bloke tried to pass off (you'll love this) a 1912 Florin as a 20 cent piece. The Employee who handled the transaction called me over as soon as the customer was gone and I very rapidly swapped the Florin for a 20 cent piece I had in my wallet.

Things like these are very rare occurrences though, at least for me.

slightly off topic, but nonetheless maybe worth telling...
As you may know you can still exchange several of the pre Euro currencies, like the German Mark or the Austrian Schilling.

I do accumulate old Schilling coins and once it is worth doing so and I am around anyway I go to the Austrian National Bank in Vienna or Innsbruck and cash them into Euro. As there are still billions of coins out there, it is quite easy to buy a bunch of them, when somewhere they cleaned out a house or so, and if it is at a decent discount, why not. I do not do it for a huge profit, but for the fun in it...

To cut the long story short: in the National Bank in Innsbruck they used to have a machine in the public area, where you placed your Schilling coins into, they got counted, you received a receipt that you could turn into real money at the counter (Today you give them the old coins and they put them into the machine behind the counter - the clerk said it frequently broke down as people are stupid enough to put all kind of stuff in it...).
Even though most of the post-war Schillings are still exchangeable, the silver 5 and 10 Schillings (KM 2882 + 2889) are not and therefore not accepted by the machine. So, one day, maybe 10 years ago, when handling my Schillings and then checking the return slot, there were about 10 silver 5 and 10 Schilling coins in there that were not accepted from the previous customer and obviously just left there...
No real fortune, back then, with lower silver price maybe worth 10 or 15 EUR, but you can still find some pre EUR silver out there, even though not quite from circulation :-)
in the end everything will be good - if it's not good, then it's not the end...
Technically, this $2.00 purchase at the antique market doesn't count as "the wild" since I live in Canada.

But, today I received a 1965 Canada 25 Cent piece at the grocery store.

It has been many, many years since this has happened.

While on vacation last month, my sister-in-law went to the bank and got me a roll of dimes (US $.10) and a roll of Quarters ($.25). Gave them to me and found the dimes was a whole roll of silver dimes. (50 of them). Needed 9 for my collection and the rest are now on my swap list. That will never happen again.

And also about three years ago she got me dollar and half dollar coins from the bank and in the half dollar was a 1964 Kennedy.
