It would be illegal to depict Armstrong on a USA coin before August 25, 2014, since there is a statutory ban on living or recently deceased persons on American coins. I'd like to see a circulating commemorative half dollar in 2015.
That first image shows the other side of the reverse shown by James. I guess everyone means a coin just for Neil, so not for the moon landings and so on. So will see what 2015 produces (or even 2019 as that will be the 50-year 1969 anniversary). Thanks.
Armstrong shied from the spotlight and didn't consider himself a hero. It doesn't seem right to force him into a role that he (maybe) wouldn't have accepted.
I cannot argue that he is more worthy than others already honored. But I cannot argue that he is more worthy than the many who lost their lives in the early space program. The space program as a whole and astronauts together are good subjects for commemoration, but I'd hate to draw the line at which individual ones are more important than others.
It was all a hoax. The Americans never landed on the moon. It was staged for publicity. The Americans wanted to have one up on the Soviets. Now, the Americans have to hitch a ride to the space station with the Russians. The reason Armstrong quit NASA in 1971 was becuse he was tired of the fake politics.
