Help ID Afghanistan (?) 1/2 Rupee [opgelost]

5 berichten • 50 keer bekeken
This one has some similarities with the Barkazai coins on Numista and Zeno, but I can't find a good match. It also has a possible date on either side: 1297 on one side and 1219 on the other. I've included a photo of the case it came in with what I think is a bad ID.

Weight: 5.5g
Diameter: 17.3-18.2
Composition: silver

Thanks as always for your help.

NIce coin! Looking in Krause's Standard Catalog of World Coins for the 1800s, your coin appears to match an Afghanistan half rupee of Wali Sher Ali, Qandahar mint, AH 1297 (AD 1880), KM #217
Agreed, thanks very much. It's funny, I'd just given up on web searches and broken out the big books. I have a few more of these Afghan rupees to go through and I'm finding that the book is probably the best choice, assuming I have the right country and century...

I agree with Seeker55, it is KM217. The KM218 is the 1 Rupee and very slightly different.
