I have an 1878 one rupee silver coin of British India with Queen Victoria on Obverse. I believe there is no mint mark and the reverse appears to be type IV.
can someone help identify this coin as I believe type IV coins are rare for 1878.
I cannot see a mint mark (dot) either. The reverse looks to be a Type II, closed top flower, slanted top of 1. The flower to the left of the date has 5 petals (shown below) and not 3 for the Type IV.
Thank you but I still could not find Bust A type/ Reverse type II/ no dot in the catalogue. No dot means Calcutta mint. Do we hv this coin in some other catalogue. Thx in advance
I agree. 1878 no mint mark, Type A Bust, Type II Reverse does not exist in the Numista catalog. It's also not in the NGC catalog (which means it's probably not in SCWC). So you either have a coin that doesn't exist or we're both missing something. Hopefully another member with more knowledge of these coins will reply.
I will post all the other details as soon as I can collect them. Although both are supposed to be silver and I checked they are non magnetic with the sound of silver when tossed
