For whatever reasons , my swaps have dwindled away to nothing. This may be a common trend I don’t know , given Lockdown I imagined it might have gone the other way.
I suspect this maybe because I collect Crown sized coins which is a niche market , and secondly I don’t have coins in my swap list that people want.
This said, I still try periodically and I find it frustrating and annoying that an increasing number of collectors don’t bother to reply and just ignore my request.
I always respond to requests to me , even if it’s no as I deem it a matter of common courtesy. I’m sure many of you agree.
You are not alone Charles. I frequently attempt to initiate swaps and far too many are ignored with no reply. The lack of common courtesy is indeed of concern with some of the members.

I agree Harry , it’s probably a bit draconian but perhaps Moderators should make it a rule , and failure to abide a warning about continued membership. A bit harsh maybe

Unfortunately, I don't really know what the answer is. Perhaps it is indicative of the general decline in civility in our societies and the fact that some folks feel they don't have to be polite or civil hiding behind their electronic devices.
About the reduced swap number don't worry, I think it's a common trend in this period. Me and other collectors I know experienced this downfall.
I think it isn't something related to coins we collect. It's something more general: I became unable to swap my euros neither on facebook...
Furthermore I think people here are concerned about swap with collectors that have, in their own profile, the last swap done more than a year ago...it's just my personal thought.
When initiating a swap check the other persons profile page:
- Did the person swap recently? (received/given reviews)
- Does the person have swaps on the road?
- Was the person active in the forum?
- How many swaps did the other person complete?
I often don't even bother contacting people that haven't been swapping in the past few months.
A person with just a handful of swaps might have signed up, performed a few swaps and then moved on. A person with hundreds of swaps is more likely to respond even when no swap was completed in the past couple months (just my experience, exceptions prove the rule).
In my opinion if the person don't answer about your swap inquiry its not worth your time. Forget about that person even if he had most wanted coins at your list. There will be others who cant wait to swap with you. Focus on this people and don't waste your time on people who dont bother to answer. I have a rule : If i cant find a common language with the person i swap with i can be sure that if something will go wrong, the swap will be hard as hell. So i leave such swap. Not worth.
Its not a good idea to give a ban or something about that if the person dont respond. Just leave it and try to find someone else. Make a thread on the forum about what coins you are looking for and someone will answer. There are many people who have what you want and would like to swap with, you just need to fine the right ones.
It runs both ways, I sometimes am very frustrated to the fact that a trade is made of say (30) coins, then they dont read your profile, and get mad, then that you want to sell???
It is courteous to read profiles and understand a trade/sale with such user before you make the SWAP.

My frustration comes from members asking to swap a coin that I have of a higher Grade or Value and all they have listed is coins that I don't collect or coins of significantly lower grades or modern coins that I am not interested in. Then when I explain I'm not interested in a swap with them the inevitable promise of, " I can get you any coin you want..." or " Do you want to sell it?" If I wanted to sell it, I wouldn't have it up for swap. it would be sold. If you can get me any coin I want, why don't you have it listed in your swap list?
Then to top it off... When I'm not interested, I get insulting and accusatory comments directed at me. This makes me mistrustful of swapping with anyone here. Seems like the vultures coming out to see if they can pick my bones and then get angry when I don't play their game.
Well with me it has been mostly no time. The last 5 years between health and family issues , I only had one day aweek to play with my coins. But for me the biggest reason I have slowed down my swapping is , I have had a lot go missing in the mail. And the cost has gone way up, last time I sent a swap to the UK it ran almost 30 dollars.

Hi Charles, I sent a pm to you.
Kind regards,
Mario
I have created a coin club that meets one a month in my garage. We started with 3 people and have grown to 10. This club is specifically foreign coins. Now that I started this club, my extra coins are not up to date on my Numista list. Makes it hard to do a swap when you don't know what you have in your swap list.
I really don´t know how things are across Europe and beyond but every time i´ve tried to trade some coins (in the last two years), one of two things happens:
1º - the coins arrive in Portugal and Customs give me a hard time (and makes me spend money) to retrieve the package;
2º - the coins get trough Customs and are stolen by the postmail guys (or in the process).
So, after two great trades made were in numista, i´ve stepped back in trading with foreign people.
Nowadays I have 1717 Coins to swap and growing... :(
In every winter in put my other hobbies to rest and spend lots of times with our round friends but I overthink the trades because of the above and quit with them.
