This coin is confusing me, I got it with a lot of random world coins. It’s 26mm as km#57 is suppose to be but the metal doesn’t seem to match as it’s suppose to nickel clad steel but this coin is shiny brass-gold colour. Has anyone encountered this, is there some sort of variation I’m not aware of?
Thanks Elcuco, it doesn’t make much sense to me to counterfeit an inexpensive coin. And I thought original coin is Nickel coated steel, is there a bronze variation?
I think you’re right Luca, both the weight & diameter match it has to plated. Nice job, who ever did it.
On coin fairs I've already seen a few times a binder with gilded coin sets of circulation coins. The sets were made by a private company, I can't recall anymore which one but I thought it was a Dutch company. The binders I've seen were always very cheap because nobody wants them. Because the gilding was done by a private company and not commissioned by any authority, all these coins were post mint damage, in fact the gilding made them no longer legal tender hence the low demand.
I can't remember if there was also an Argentina set in that binder. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure your coin is plated too, and very probably gilded.
It seems right but the patina is awful fake. It should be plated as the guys mentioned here. Sometimes fake a cheap coin is a business because nobody will have any doubts on it. Yours is plated but don’t mind, is a really cheap coin. Keep it as souvenir.
If you want this coin but real with a good patina I can gave you this as gift if we do a swap in the future (are you interested in Finnish silver coins?). Now I can’t swap because I’m trying to understand how to put my coins here -I know, is easy but I can’t by now-. Best regards.
