Hi guys, what do you think about this piece? Is authentic? Worth the buy despite the green on the patina , the crack and the small hole of corrosion? The price is 80€. Thank you for your answers.
In my opinion, the coin is beautiful, with great detail. Certainly washed, later. The green coating is easy to remove. The crack was formed when breaking it, which may prove its authenticity. But the price, in my opinion, is too high for a popular coin.
Thank you. How do you remove the green coating? And yes, I saw this kind of coin at 50€ but not exactly this one. I like the fat man wearing the toga and voting. However, you are right. Then, how get rid of the green coating? (not for this coin because I have a couple of them with this). Thank you.
Septimius Severus AR Denarius, 202-210 AD. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right / VOTA SVSCEPTA XX, Septimius, veiled, standing left by tripod, holding patera and roll. RIC 306; BMCRE 375; RSC 791.

In my opinion the coin is authentic. As for the price there is no real price guide for ancient coins and prices vary a lot, the same coin can sell for one price one day and double the other. All I can say is the coin is beautiful but I wouldn't pay 80e for it.
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
Thank you. And yes, is really expensive for a common coin. 50€ would have been a good deal, imo. Waiting for the tips for get rid of the green stains, I have a couple of coins with that.
If you are not experienced in cleaning - DO NOT DO THIS. you can destroy a coin. I burn small stains of ginseng with a lighter. The green leaves a brittle black coating that can be removed with a toothpick. You can also use a Leuchtturm liquid punk or other liquid for silver, control the process and then wash the coin in distilled water. Unfortunately, a stain may form if the silver sample is inferior. Sometimes when green is removed, it is pitted.
Thank you, Mariusz. I will not clean the coins, however I will practice with cheaper and in a bad condition ones, so I can acquire experience. Can you recommend a book for cleaning (just for extreme cases, when is mandatory clean). Thank you.
