Hello All,
Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum, I have received a swap from a fellow member and am unsure what to do. The coins were wrapped in tissue paper and taped between cardboard with the whole thing covered in tape. Unfortunately when I opened the plastic envelope the inner bundle was wringing wet. This had caused the tissue to dissolve into a wet paste and the coins themselves were left for weeks in wet card and tape. I'm guessing the water damage wasn't the persons fault and rain or something got in the letter. A lot of the coins are nowhere near the grade listed now this may have been as a consequence of the water damage I can't say however 2 coins were missing (both low value common coins) and an Australian 2 cent piece was listed as a blunt coin variant and it isn't. As far as I know my parcel hasn't reached the other end so should I wait till he receives my parcel and gets in touch or should I contact him at this point mind you if I do would it be a case of too bad on my part and should I wait on leaving feedback?
Usually, the first step is to start a conversation with your swap partner. Perhaps you're able to work things out together. If that doesn't work, come back for advice.
Most of these problems could have been prevented by a photo of the selected coins before confirming the swap. Grading is subjective, always ask for photos so you can judge the coins yourself. Also, always send photos of your own coins so there's no confusion later.
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
Talk to the swapper first. Maybe you would agree to send all the coins back from both sides if it makes sense, maybe he will send you some extra ones, maybe sth else. He should also know about the packaging situation, a lot of people use this way of packaging, but sometimes it is not the best choice.
If you work sth out with the swapper, leave a feedback describing the situation. If it is resolved and you are happy, give him a good rating, if he does not want to resolve the issue, do not give him a good rating. Or just do not give him a rating at all if you think that he was fair, but the problem was because of the 3rd party, let's say. I had 2 swaps that did not go great because of the mail problems and I just left them unrated.
But this is a nature of swapping, it will never be 100% great.
