Bohemia - Leopold I - 3 Kreuzer - 1720? [opgelost]

4 berichten • 102 keer bekeken
I was hoping someone could help me with this coin. Based on the obverse, I thought it was a 3 Kreuzer from Bohemia. Also, it has (G E) at the base of the reverse, which would seem to be this coin. However, according to the catalog, they were not issued past 1709. On the reverse, the date above the double eagle looks like 1720 to me.... I have not been able to find any examples of this coin online anywhere, and don't have any paper catalogs that include coins of this age. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeremy
Update: mystery solved! Found a listing in KM 7th Edition 1701-1800, page 67 for a 1720 error variety for 1702. Here is a screenshot of the page, found on archive.org.

Indeed, nice find. Because the 1720 was so clear and without any discussion on your coin, I didn't look at earlier dates, even when Leopoldus was written on your coin. Since 1720 must be Charles VI, I thought you had a fake coin, never thought about an error date.

One strange thing though: in my KM 7th Edition 1701 - 1800 (the same edition as yours) your coin is under Bohemia:

In the same edition, the Austria KM# 1430 is also a 3 Kreuzer but another type than in your edition. Again very strange since they are supposed to be the same edition:
