Coin identification please possibly ottoman. Think brass . Bought back from Middle East after ww2

For this item the lack of detail, poor quality of the calligraphy, hole, and color all indicate it's an imitation of an Ottoman coin used as a clothing ornament, otherwise known as a "belly dancer token."

Yes, an ornament with fake Arabic legends, based on a coin of Sultan Mahmood. Here is another one which is very similar.

I suppose they were making new dies from a token instead of a coin, so that the design became more degraded over time.
