Uniface Lead Token with bird & bush (Bought in the UK)

3 berichten • 120 keer bekeken

Seems like lead, but could be tin or pewter? 4.6g (0.16 oz) and around 2 cm (4/5") in diameter. The rim slopes in slightly towards the picture side/face.
Any information would be well appreciated. Thanks.
A lead token, like these, also from United Kingdom ...

Those are wage tokens. Maybe it is a hop token, mainly used in Kent.
There are some more (with information) on this page, under 'Lead Tokens' section ...

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
Thanks for your thoughtful, detailed and helpful resonse. This confirms that I've been thinking along the right lines and gives me some useful new links to specialist resources. I even saw a token in the link with a central raised point (presumably where it was attached after casting). In that coin, it formed part of the geometric pattern: in mine it's an unwelcome imposition in the picture. Does the bird and bush mean anything or suggest an issuer? Thanks
