Hello everyone. First let me say I am greatly enjoying Numista. I think it's a great system here. And I have been busy, having fun listing and cataloging my collection, I still have many more to add. I have also been browsing the forum finding lots of useful interesting information. I think I have most bases covered but won't be afraid to ask a stupid question, or two, when it comes up.
From what I've been reading on here, I should get the ball rolling with an introduction. Try and get to know everyone, get some posts up and my name mentioned. Maybe even do a few trades later on. But first, I see there is concern about scammers and rightly so, I agree it is a new trader's responsibility to earn trust among the community. Certain protocol and guidelines should be in place and strictly followed and legitimate traders should not have a problem complying with them.
Okay now a little about me;
I have collected coins, on and off since childhood, or for the past 30+ years, whichever is greater. I belong to several other online coin groups and forums either as harry213 or pennylover, I also run a coin group by the same name. I really like collecting penny's. I don't collect by type and country. My interests are mainly U.S.A, Canada and Great Britain. But I own and collect other countries too. My current goal is to trade off unwanted doubles and countries I don't collect, for those that I do.
Hello harry213 and welcome to the world of Numista. I hope you will enjoy taking part in all the facilities that this site has to offer, and I can think of at least one member that may be keen to snap up your British Colonial doubles. Personally, if you have any Victorian copper or bronze pieces then I would be very interested. Good luck and happy collecting
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
Hi radrick007, I really like British coppers/bronze too. I am looking to add more to my collection. I will hopefully have some lots coming in over the next few weeks and will list the doubles as I get them. Thanks
I've started a swap with you as you have some stuff I'm really interested in - mainly the Canadian tokens! There's no rush though if you aren't comfortable with swapping yet

Mark240590 - That's fine, I will have a look at your swaps. I'm just not very familiar yet with navigating on the swap page, So I'm having a hard time following the steps (2 other members have offered swaps and have been very patient and helpful, thanks guys).
Bam777- Thank You for welcoming me. Yes approach is very important and should be done slowly and cautiously, but I think there is always some risk involved in everything we do. And In an environment like the internet there can be good and bad. Identification and recognition is the key.
Okay you Canadian Token lovers, so I think I added all my tokens to Numista. But I still see a few types in my album I can't find. And one I had to group with its sibling. I may be wrong about this but I did try searching under tokens, Canada, and Provinces.

I've pretty much taken the same decision about swapping outside of the lower 48. It's the way the UPU was set up, where supposedly richer countries pay more for international mail to subsidise the poorer ones. The world has changed since the 1950's with many former Eastern Bloc countries now enjoying a higher standard of living than the US. Until the UPU wakes up it makes no sense to spend $30 to send coins abroad when I could walk the 1/2 mile to my local shop and buy the same for $20.
It's not just the cost, there is also a big question about the reliability of the mail. (I suspect many of the issues would be more accurately described as unreliable collectors). I still make a few trades with people I know and trust who live in the more stable parts of Europe but these are now the exception, not the rule.

Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

Thanks for welcoming me Phil,
So far this week I have received over 3 times more international swap offers than U.S. offers. Though I am kicking myself for shutting the door on so many potentially good trades, and traders, outside the U.S. Your statement sums up exactly why I decided against it.. But I should also note that I also plan to make a few exception in the future, particularly to our friends in the U.K... However at this moment my swap list is neither large enough nor valuable enough to warrant the expense.
I still however have not completely ruled out Canada, but even then it would have to be worth the shipping expense.
I strongly agree, lets do it !!
Go ahead and pick that one I know you have your eye on, and I'll keep checking your list for something I fancy.. Better hurry though Mark, everyone seems to want those, I don't know how long I'll be able to hang on to them
Citeer: Mark240590I've pricked what takes my fancy but doesn't have to be all ! Ill update my listings etc
We are off to a good start, I chose one that fits my wish list. But it doesn't have to be that one. I will look to see what you added.
I also picked up a load of coins at a show yesterday. And also won a hoard of G.B. pennies on FleaBay, that should arrive next week. I will be adding all of them to my list over the next few days. Stay tuned in everyone.
Update.. I have decided to begin removing many of my older, scarcer or silver coins from my exchange list.. Just felt it necessary due to the many swaps I have turned down.. Because the coins they selected were all 150 yrs old or more, or scarce, or silver, and when I checked they had nothing but modern circulation..
So in order to spare everyone the disappointment and drama, (but mostly to throw off any sharks and opportunists that may be lurking).. I will leave only newer or common coins in my exchange..
This does not effect anyone I am currently in negotiations with the coins you selected will remain available.. And anyone that wants to swap in the future, and reads this or my profile, can know I have other coins available if requested.
