Is this a male or macho hobby?

Friends,
I am from India. Most of the coin collectors in India, who are active with numismatics clubs, are males. It is quite rare to see a female member in a numismatics club here, except of course for the rare exceptions. I would like to know if this trend is country specific or a universal pattern. Please share your experience.

It seems that most are males I dunno maybe it's because as men we are infatuated with "toys" as the famous saying is boys don't stop playing with toys they just get bigger (referring to cars) women are more boring in this retrospect lol
:D

It's teh interwebz!!!!1!!! Everyone knows the only women on the internet are FBI agents.

Real women are too busy to bother with coins. They do stuff like knitting, breastfeeding and making sandwiches.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

No really, Ginger is one of Numista's moderators and a good one at that. She posts infrequently and she knows her stuff!

She (always thought he) uses the French forum and she is technically supposed to moderate Canada in both English and French. I guess her name Charlene is pretty feminine.

Mine should resemble charcoal then ha ! Maybe have to get some horny goat weed supplements ! (Not kidding there testosterone boosters) they are used instead of bluey's and also by fitness freaks to help with training I nearly got em but then I pulled my left t1t and the arthritis kicked in never been the same since ! Why are we talking about b-pills?

Just because coin collecting is a man's hobby, doesn't mean the men are manly, and they probably aren't either. My friend (who's a complete geek) is pretty weird usually and shows no masculinity in actions.

We ended up on testosterone toning coins ha!
Plus it seems to be mainly men not a macho thing more macho things are playing with cars apparently which although I do this and participate in forums etc ive lost interest plus a lot of these macho men are only making up for their short fall in what defines them as a man ha
I see through this...this is a post trying to air out the females. Where they aren't coming out lads...because they are smart!
Generally, I think that it is a predominantly male hobby...but it isn't a universal brush we paint the world with.
Yes it is a male dominated hobby. Which is unfortunate as I consider myself a Huge fan of the female gender.  And rather enjoy their presence tremendously. But yes there are females in the hobby, they do exist, I have seen them with mine own 4 eyes B) .. And I even knew one that was a dealer.

They must have it tough though, having to deal with all the grunting, groaning and scratching of the male breed. There were a few at the show last weekend and I felt terrible for one of them, as she dealt with one fellow who was not used to being in the presence of females at coin shows.. And I can still feel that awkward moment when he pointed out that obvious fact to her. z|
So many coins... So little time...
In the 1400's and 1500's it became the hobby of Kings, I didn't hear anything about a queen. :D
