Except the pattern is all wrong. The numbers are much smaller relative to the diameter in 2 Maravedis, and the imprint looks nothing like lion shield. But now I can see where the supposed digits are on this thing. I guess maybe it's a coin after all.

The link gives us one photo. But it gives additional important information: the coin was struck at 11 different mints.
That's eleven opportunities for different sized numbers and other variations.
But at that point, how do we know that it's even this coin, and not a completely different one from a different country? You can barely make out any devices on it. Did only this country make coins of this size in 1600s?
