Hello everyone! Personally, I think those who like to collect coins and banknotes would also like travelling, right? So, I wonder how many countries you guys have been to? I’d love to be a listener/reader to hear your story.
From the UK i've so far been to Spain, America (California to be exact), Mexico, Cyprus (Northern) and my favourite, Norway.
I don't really have a story for many of those but I do love the idea of travelling to see the sights and attractions but my parents were more just for the sun or cruise-ship life so most cruise-holidays I opted out from.
Great question. I've only been to 24 different countries but wish I could say "more." A friend of mine, who lives in Europe has over 100 different nations visited the last time we discussed this. He has some notes & coins from each country & I admire his photos & anecdotes from wherever he goes.
29 so far, many of them multiple times.
Europe 20 (not counting Vatican 😇)
Africa 4
America 2
Asia 3
Most adventurous - rafting in Ethiopia and Namibia, Indian Himalayas trek (reached 6000 m) and Icelandic highland.
I've been to about 30 countries so far. Mainly travel to Europe but also Mongolia, Cuba, and a few other places.
The Alps are gorgeous as is most of Switzerland. One day we had breakfast in Zurich, bus to Vaduz Liechtenstein for lunch and a hike up to the castle, then dinner in Austria. So we did three countries in one day on that trip.
A few years ago I spent a month in Egypt. It was a tough trip for several reasons but had a great time anyway. I even wrote a book about my trip...!!
Citeer: "Camerinvs"Only 17 if I'm correct, but this includes three visits to Turkey.
One country I visited on two continents, France, since I went to Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. What did I find there, of all things? A South Korean coin!
St. Pierre & Miquelon can be reached by boat from Newfoundland - & Euros are legal tender there.
38-40, depending on how to count Abkhazia and Scotland and if do not count countries where I was only at the territory of Airports..... But it seems these figures can't be changed in the near future...
UPD: Abkhazia, Austria, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina (or Republika Srpska), Vatican, UK (England and Scotland), Vietnam, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Denmark, Egypt, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, China, Cuba, Lithuania, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, South Korea, Japan

As to get to Austria, the plane landed in Germany. A holiday with the family (parents and two sisters).
Then we got on a coach which took us to Austria, for two weeks.
Meant to be doing some skiing, but the snow had melted.
My parents had been there by themselves the previous year and there was snow.
Can not remember the small town name. It was beautiful though.
Spain was a decade later, with the brother of my first girlfriend, and we went on a Club 18-30 holiday,
to Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava. Again for two weeks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloret_de_Mar
Live in United States. Count United Nations, New York? as it is international territory

I am 73 years old and best time of my life was August to November 1977. I had worked in Australia for 3 years and to return home traveled from Melbourne to London with no fixed address. Traveling overland from Kathmandu to London was popular with Commonwealth citizens at the time. There were 20 of us on the bus, including driver and guide, from US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Hong Kong and Switzerland, half male, half female. We paid into a kitty to cover hotel rooms and restaurants. By the end of the trip I had shared rooms with everyone, including driver and guide. My memory may be faulty but I think the kitty was $1500 US and on arrival in London I was given back $500.
Most visitors from Canada get there by ferry from Fortune, Newfoundland, though there is a flight from Montreal once a week. Even French people will usually fly to Newfoundland and take the ferry. Back in 2017, on the ferry I spoke with a young French cook who got a summer job at Langlade. He didn't sound as excited as I would have been in his situation. He happened to get a summer job there instead of, say, Tours or Lille, so he was just on his way to a job.
Normally, it is now possible to get there with your car. This is something that was introduced just weeks before the pandemic hit us. The islands were closed to all foreign visitors of course during the pandemic, which was a huge loss for them since they rely heavily on tourism now that cod-fishing is almost a thing of the past.
I was there after a conference in St. John's Newfoundland. Unfortunately, that happened to be a Friday─Sunday trip. If you like walking around just to see daily life and only have three days, I recommend a trip during the week. The weekend is pretty much dead. On the Friday afternoon, we saw a group of teens just coming out of their Lycée (high school) for the weekend. That's pretty much all we actually saw of life in the street. St-Pierre, the capital, has a population of about 5000...
I checked the website linked above and they don't require a passport for Canadian citizens any longer. Obviously they want to do everything they can to recover from the disastrous pandemic biennium.
They also point out that the Canadian dollar is accepted in many places. However, when the Euro is stronger, they won't be so keen, as was the case in May 2017.
If the horrible Mercator Projection is the default view, you can select Eckert or some other at the bottom left. Here is what it looks like for me:
I selected Eckert 3 (left) with Mercator for comparison. On the Mercator Projection the equator was moved down so that European and northern countries are bigger than their real size. Compare Canada and Australia, for example.
There is also a link to a TripAdvisor map where you enter cities, not countries, but I think you have to register with TripAdvisor.
I have visited 6 countries:
South Africa
Italy
Great Britain
USA
Ukraine
and Bermuda.
Bermuda, in my opinion, is the best place to visit.
As they are close to the US, their currency is 1:1 to the US dollar.
38 if I did not miss any.
I would love to more new destinations but having small children that is somewhat limited for a few more years.
44 actually after listing them seems I had forgotten a few.

If I'm counting countries like Numista is counting countries, and I exclude my own country, I have visited 34 countries. Of course I don't count countries where I've only been in the airport. Airports are neutral ground.
The star after the name means I've spent at least one night there.
Citeer: "apuking"Angola (I don't count, crossed a river from Namibia and just set 2 feet on Angola )
It's the same for me and North Korea. I don't really count North Korea, even though I've physically crossed the border and stayed there for like 15 minutes.

So, I suppose you crossed from South Korea? I remember seeing something about that somewhere online. On the northern side of NK there is a strange North Korea-China-Russia border, where China has a narrow strip of territory between the other two. In Google Earth there seems to be a temple near the south-eastern tip of this strip of land. Someone also tagged a "Pont de l'amitié" = "Bridge of Friendship". Not sure how easy it actually is to cross there but I doubt it's tourist-friendly!
I have traveled to 54 countries, most of them in the early 80's while I worked for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia. At the time I did save coins and notes from countries that I was in but later sold my entire collection when I went back to school. In 2016 I began to collect coins and notes again. Travel in the 80's was much easier than it is now with all the security checks and threats of terrorism against foreigners. I was fortunate enough to see some of the Soviet bloc countries before the fall of the wall in 1990. My home country is Canada (in pink) on the attached map.
1. Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, QC, NB, NS, PE, NL, NU, NT, YT) 2. United States (WA, OR, CA, ID, UT, AZ, NM, CO, WY, MT, ND, NS, NE, TX, NY, MI, WI, MN, IL, IN, OH, VT, NH, MA, ME, AK) 3. Mexico 4. Australia (NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, WA)
5. New Zealand 6. Tonga 7. Fiji 8. Western Samoa 9. Tuvalu 10. Kiribati 11. Nauru 12. Papua New Guinea 13. Solomon Islands 14. Singapore 15. Philippines 16. Hong Kong (under British rule) 17. Malaysia 18. Thailand 19. India 20. Pakistan 21. Nepal 22. Saudi Arabia 23. Oman 24. Yemen 25. Bahrain 26. Jordan 27. Syria 28. Ethiopia 29. Egypt 30. Tunisia 31. Algeria 32. Morocco 33. Portugal 34. ngdawaThis summer I'm hoping to visit Greece, and I'm planning on driving there, so then there will be a few more countries added to the list.
So, Greece is booked and done. Will be travelling around for three weeks, but unfortunately I'm flying there, so only one country will be added to the list. But on Sunday I'll add my 35th country. 😁
I've only been to Japan so far, but I'll be studying in Greece next year for about 4 months. I hope to visit many other places around the world some day.
That's something I haven't thought about in a while.
US, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Australia, East Timor, Hong Kong before its return to China, South Korea, Bali, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Philippines, CNMI, a couple of territories (Guam, Diego Garcia), and a few other countries but just the airport.
I’ve just come back from vacation and explored the UAE for the first time. thinking about all the countries i have visited/lived not including just layovers at airports
1 japan (just Tokyo)
2 china ( several incl HK, Macau)
3 singapore
4 thailand (several)
5 india (several)
6 Sri Lanka (several)
7 UAE (several)
8 Austria (just Vienna)
9 Germany (several)
10 Netherlands (several)
11 belgium (several)
12 France (several)
13 Italy (just Milan)
14 UK (several)
15 Canada (several)
16 USA (several)
17 Mexico (just Mexico City)
I noted down those countries where I have only visited one city which are certainly on my list to go back to again. The world is so huge and there are so many places & regions I want to visit. However for this year, I will explore South Korea for 10 days in the summer and a couple more places right here in Canada out west and in the maritimes. I may probably go to india again and will visit more cities there too. The US is of course right next door for me and I’ve never been to Florida, so that might be squeezed in this year as well if my wallet can afford it !
