I got some coins from my friend cause he didnt want them, and im having a fun time identifying them. Among them i found this golden square token that says "BARREN NR 21547" and when i googled it the number was autocompleted for some reason.
Heres a picture:

Does anyone know what it is / the meaning behind it?
thanks -melkemokka
Hello and welcome to Numista!

It's listed in Numista as a food ration token from Portugal.

very cool! But why does the ration token say NR. and mine says NR without the . ???
I don't know. Maybe just a different die. How thick is yours?
Barren means ingot or bar like in gold bar.

But this looks nothing like precious metal and I don't know why this is listed as Portuguese or should have anything to do with food.

Another reason on the long list why we shouldn't put everything we find discarded on the street in the exonumia section with out proof of what it actually is and what it is/was used for.
Very interesting. Maybe its some old token for a bank or something? Hopefully ill find out one day :)
Interesting that eBay Italy has the exact same number token as Numista. https://www.ebay.it/itm/175271783048?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338722076&customid=&toolid=10050 No mention of Portugal or food. Described as rare but nothing else. You could try contacting the eBay seller for information as the item is still open for bids.

Will
Or contact the user that created the page by PM MRAM who is from Portugal.
Thank you all for helping :)
Barren is German or is this word also used in other languages?

From time to time I sell some coins on Ebay make sure to follow me @apuking on Ebay.
I dont know, Barren is used in english too, but in. this context it seems more likely that it's german. Now why this has anything to do with portuguese food rations, i have no idea
