1 euro cent mint error?

6 berichten • 500 keer bekeken

Hello everyone, I'm actually not that much of a coin enthusiast myself, yet I happened to get a very strange euro cent coin as change in a supermarket and started reading about it and am now perplexed. So I want to ask what kind of error is this and how much could this thing be worth and how do I sell it to reliable people?

So, the coin in question is a German 1 euro cent coin. First and foremost, it's colour is wrong: it should be copper, but is gold. Then on the number side there seem to be various images as though it were superimposed on a different coin. It seems like a profile of a bird's head and something else perhaps. Also an “R” or “A” letter is featured. The other side is partially covered with paper I haven't removed. It looks regular, and has the symbol of the Hamburg mind and the year 2016. This coin look weird and it seems like at least one mint error. Also, it's somewhat thicker than a regular coin though the diameter is the same as that of a regular 1 euro cent coin. I attach the images.

Welcome to numista, please follow this procedure: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic71935.html

The paper and eventual glue can be removed by applying acetone.

Hello, I’ve had a few very similar coins like this.

There are some companies that take random cent pieces, color them gold or silver, glue something to them
(for example I had one with a wooden ladybug) and sell them as lucky charms.

Someone seems to have ripped of the bug (you can even still see the glue) and used it to buy something.

Strange, yes, but unfortunately not special or a minting error.

As for the stamping, I’ve never seen that myself but its probably just these companies too.

Have a great day

Well, this doesn't anyhow explain the strange symbols (I can at least identify a bird's head) on the number side. Also, the glue is from a piece of paper stuck on, it could hardly be something else.

It is definitely not a Mint error. This is the result of Post Mint Damage (PMD).

Wertinas gave you an excellent explanation. As to how much it is worth … 1 euro cent.

Hey at least it doubled it's value with the plating if they used the minimum thickness to be considered plating of 0.5 µm … if its just gold-leaf it's just 20% extra.
