Hello I would like to identify this coin, I believe Roman, rather thick.

The diameter is 29 - 30 mm

The weight is 19.78 grams

The thickness is approximately 4 mm

Thanks for your help

I would also like to be able to remove this oxidation that covers many details, without obviously cleaning it.  Can you suggest me some remedies?

Thanks again

Bonum diem habeas-Have a nice day.

My thousandth post on the web!

Well, colleague, I don't know the answer to the first part of the question, sorry. I just guess the coin is home, handsome sestercius. Its value in circulation where you live was:

4 liters of wine

or 4x loaf of bread

2x sestercius-But also the normal then natural activity-Meretrix

I will comment on the condition of the coin:

the coin has recently been roughly cleaned, it is natural because it has been stripped of impurities. Now every solution is a big hit on the coin.

Bronze coin chemistry is on the market-where the coin is left soaked and then cleaned with demineralized water and preserved. Black asphalt, chalk and other products are then applied to most of the coins cleaned in this way, and the sellers sell them and the entire market ( sales website)is clogged with them.

I even see coins in the case with a fake patina. Your coin is in its natural state after cleaning-this is it.

A colleague showed it here,, I mean nick -FLUKE) I don't recommend it but I've done a demo now -I have a pile of coins in a really disastrous state now. I have problems with the Greeks, but also the Romans-little asus, several pieces. Clean coarse dirt in a small ultrasonic washing machine in demineralized water canned with WD oil. (end everything, final state) -It is either legible or as it is.

I'll show you the "Fluk method" more aggressive method - after cleaning with a toothbrush, half a year behind the window in honest olive oil you have a patina from Pompeii. :

my first attempt was now to warm up with a lighter from the son of a small lighter 15 cm

fireclay brick mat, tweezers, and prepare a glass of water.

condition of the original coin after ultrasound (I end here and do not continue-in cleaning)

but you see that the coin is tragic.

the original coin is absolutely worthless to me, he will never find the mint , and is one of the most common coins Rome. After staying in the oil, it stretches with protection.

However, this is the most controversial topic of numismatics.

Don't clean it, surely someone will know him and chemistry and scratching will destroy it. Just preserve.

Ivan

Našel jsem to 👍😁

Regards.

And I add that your sestercius is under oxidation in better condition than that example - more details.

Just preserve.

Happy collecting and saving the heritage of great-great-great-grandfathers.
