Hi all!

About this N#4849 coin:

numista catalog says it is medal alignment.

I have this coin, Bombay mint, large lettering, in coin alignment.

Is this an error, fake,…, or is numista catalog wrong?

Thanks for your opinion!

Regards,

Tony

From that page:

- These coins exist in both medal and coin rotations.

It's says in the comments section that both medal and coin rotation exists for this type.

You can't put both types in the overview so perhaps it would be better to not mention it at all?

Thank you both for the replies. I just missed that part apparently. Time to stop for the day, tomorrow I'll have a fresh focus…

I just noticed this:

I didn't realise there was a possibility to enter ‘Variable alignment’ for a coin until now.

I this is used, the text in the comment section can be deleted…

I would advise against that.  The definition for Variable is the alignment varies from one coin to another (essentially random). If you do change it to that, I suggest keeping the comment to indicate there are only 2 choices for alignment.  Otherwise a mint error (die rotation) would be considered normal and not an error.

Edit:  I recognize the example you gave.  I was the one that changed it to variable alignment from coin alignment since that coin has at least 4 known different alignments. It's not random but with the comments showing the different alignments it's better than keeping coin as the normal alignment.

Ok, thanks for the clarification 😉
