Hi all!

I would appreciate anyone's help too identify this coin.
Metal :Bronze/Brass? Thought it was too strong for copper as it is very thin but strong. Could be wrong.
Diameter : 30mm
Thickness: 0.7mm (Very thin)
Weight: 3.6g

Obviously it would've weighed more and would've been thicker than it's current size.
The closest I'm getting regarding comparisons is south to southeast Asia. Afghanistan perhaps? Would be nice to pin point it's exact location and approximate date etc...

Thanks in advance!

As a youngster, I like to find NZ pre-decimal and foreign coins that had made It's way into circulated coinage.

The thought of holding a object of the past with it's hidden history really intrigued me as a youngster...and still does.
That's script from the Indian subcontinent, possibly India although the Nepalese script bears similarities. That's all I can help.
Denn alles Fleisch, es ist wie Gras
that is a subunit coin of the Nepali Mohur or Mohar... (pre 1920s?)

thats all I can tell.

Yup! That's roughly where I have been looking. Gone through my 3 periods of Krause books and can't seem to find it. Been through India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh etc... those areas seem to resemble coins that are relatively close in design. Could be unattributed. Need someone that can read the script. I don't even know if the coins are up the right way. I put them up like that 'cos they sorta look right  (8
Still waiting on another source from a PM as he's curious too.

The coin has been sitting in a tray on my desk for a while now with the intention to identify it at some stage. This is 'some stage'  :8D

Thanks!

Just to add extra to help with Id... it has a die rotation  of 330 degrees or 10 o'clock and it's bilingual :)
Come on people! Surely there's someone out there that can Help.  :snif:

Dude, that looks Nepali - go to country list, type in Nepal, then click the Mohar or Mopar (forgot the spelling), then look for it.

Have fun, I had to do the same for Arabic coins... :D

Did not find the exact match but got a tip from a WoC member that it probably belongs to the Ghaznavid era. Here are some coins with similar script

More about the Ghaznavids from wikipedia

Thank you Joseph for your time and help. I will follow up the information you received from the WoC member. I have to say it is very time consuming trying to identify an item of an unknown language
to one's own but very rewarding at the same time. I have learnt a lot from this coin alone.

Happy collecting!

Hi 15turtles, no real breakthrough as yet. I have followed up on what you had suggested prior to this listing  and after (just to make sure), with no such luck! . As stated above... I'm assuming it is unattributed and hoping someone will recognise/translate the Sanskrit type Legend and the Arabic/Persian on the opposite side.

The closest I'm getting is the tip Joseph received from the WoC member but finding a match that's identical or close is proving difficult.

I will let you know with great joy if the identification is ever revealed ! :)

Well I don't think that's Nepali or Sanskrit either.
I would suggest Bangladesh, Srilanka or the other way around the way its written it wont hurt to check the Arabic countries.
