Hello, I have a coin that I can't identify:

Metal: Silver, Diameter: 21 mm, Weight: 1,9 g

Hello Silberschatz,

It is a byzantine silver basilikon, minted in Constantinople for Andronicus II "Palaeologus" and his son Michael IX, co-rulers of the Empire from 1295 to 1320, but the coin itself has been struck between 1304 and 1320.

Obverse : Christ “Pantokrator” enthroned facing, raising right hand in benediction, with two stars flanking upon armrests ; christogram IC - XC to either side.

Lettering : KYPIE - BOHΘEI // IC - XC in the fields.

Translitteration : κύριε βοήθει // Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς.

Translation : O Lord Saviour // Jesus Christ.

Reverse : Andronicus on the left (depicted with moustche and beard) and Michael on the right, standing facing, each raising hand to chest and holding a labarum between them.

Lettering : AVTOKPATOR - EC PΩMAIΩN

Translitteration : αὐτοκράτορες ῥωμαίων.

Translation : The Emperors of the Romans.

References :

- PCPC 167.

- DOC V, Part 1, Class VIII, n° 535 to 538.

- SB 2402 var. (because of the stars on the obverse).

“SB” must be the catalogue Byzantine Coins and Their Values, by Sear, Bendall and O'Hara, refered as “BCV” on Numista.

Thank you for your quick and detailed answer, I added the coin to the catalog with your information 🧐

Many informations you can probably add here: N#228356

😀

(Not exact same though, so I dont know if the version line would be enough)
