How do value notes?

Hi everyone!

It's my first post here and I'm still quite new in the world of Banknotes collecting and swapping. :)

After some swaps I understood that quite a few of you don't consider the PMG website pricing guide accurate. I know that there are other catalogues (like the Krause one), but I was wondering what is generally considered the best way to value a note.

With thousands of notes out there, different grades, etc. I found it almost impossible not to rely on one of these lists to put a price on them.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm really having some great swaps in this community, but this topic it's still a bit of an headache fro me. ;)

Hello, I'm still new to collecting notes aswell (3 years) so I'm not really an expert in putting prices. There is no way to determine an exact price since the value always changes. My advice is to look for how much people are selling online (good reputable sellers) (ebay and in my case Njuskalo which is a Croatian version of it). Hope it helps. :D

You should look for buying not selling values. Sellers can put any amount for their wares, what's important for a collector's value is what people are willing to pay.

Auction results from reputable auctioneers are a good point of reference for valuations.

https://www.sixbid.com is a useful list of auction houses.

Most auctioneers will list their prices realised.

I like using completed auction results. Ebay for common items and Heritage for the better material.
