I believe the peak (or at least a significant part of it) is rather due to the import of ancient Roman coins from OCRE.
I'm actually surprised that the start of the pandemic period, which also coincides with the opening of the banknote section (April 2020), doesn't have more contributions.
Apart from the peak for Roman coins, it's interesting to see that the growth of the catalogue is quite stable since the end of 2016. It's a balance between 1/ more and more people use Numista, so more and more potential contributors; 2/ the catalogue is more and more complete, leaving less room for contributions; 3/ new sections have opened (exonumia is growing fast); 3/ we keep up with the numerous release of non-circulating collector coins.
A comment about the first graph: the catalogue didn't start from zero in June 2013. To give an accurate representation, the graph should be shifted up. There are currently 311 000 types in the catalogue.

Xavier, I'm not sure I understand your comment, maybe you can write me in private to elaborate if you want me to continue to work on this.
Between now and 2013 june 16 there's 3460 days. The database search option with /new3460/ doesn't return new coins before this number. I assumed wrongly (at 3:30 am) I could start my stats on that date and have a decent interesting graph. I tried with /new3800/ and /new5000/ and still the number of new coin returned doesn't change.
If these stats are interesting also to the Site Admin, I'm happy, and maybe it deserve someone with more skills and site history/knowledge of the missing data before 2013 to look more closely at it and find a possible permanent solution for these stats.
P.S. My work/stats and graph didn't include Banknotes and Exonumia.
Thanks all for your positive comments and appreciation.

The site was opened in March 2007 with an initial catalogue mainly made of modern French coins, euro coins, and some other modern coins (US, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium…)
Mid-April 2007, users could start contributing to the catalogue.
The search engine is not able to count the number of coins created before mid-June 2013, but it's still possible to get the data. The following charts are for all types together (coins, banknotes, and exonumia).
Number of creations of types in the Numista catalogue over timeNumber of deletions of types in the Numista catalogue over timeNumber of types in the Numista catalogue over time

Great of you to have taken the time to publish a new graph with ALL the data. Personally I couldn't get the data before june 2013 as specified in the graph title and comments (Progression of the number of coins from 2013-06-13 to 2022-12-01).
I suppose I will have the same problem if I try to do the coin stats by Issuer since the opening of the site ?!?
Maybe then I will just do monthly stats for some selected Issuer. For referees interested in these stats send me a private message with the name of the Issuer you want to see compiled in the stats.

Since stepping up my involvement with Numista in 2021, and often looking at the “New Additions” I have wondered about the overall statistics (rather than those for and specific issuer) and how we got to where we are now.
The numbers don't lie For having made 21 proposals yesterday, my number of improvements (edits)in the catalog has increased by 350 units It's not me who would pay for the general tour, 2 members who have not logged in for more than a month have increased by 5,826 and 32,543 since November 11 and 2 others NOT CONNECTED for more than a year, from 5,608 and more 37,682 in one night

So for me the overall view is great.
I agree with you but with a twist. When I buy a reference book, I first look at the number of coins in it and the quality of the information in general…and then specifically for the Issuer I'm interested in.
I see here and there some statistics about Numista's users but I'm not really interested on this kind of statistics. Again, when I buy a book, I don't really care about the number of persons who bought it. Knowing that they are others is enough for me. 😂 But since Numista is a collaboration site, I understand it can be more relevant in this case.
In my views, the more complete and easy to use the book/database, the more people will be interested in using it.
I wish Numista's Coin/Banknotes statistics would be automated monthly for the whole database. One report for Coins and another one for Banknotes.
Personally, I would like to see theses stats also by Issuer for the most “main or popular” Issuers, if not all. Yes, it's more work. If Numista is the most complete reference for a specific Issuer, I might want to come back for more, even participate in improving the database. I think I would be able to judge the Numista's value and improvements for specific(s) Issuer(s) with these stats.

If you have a computer capable of downloading the list of members, it will probably be able to take over and continue the monthly statistics provided from December 2013 to August 2019
Sorry, I can't. Maybe someone else.
