I have 2 tokens/medals one 1962 with a serial # 495 and 1-1972 serial # 495. One side of 1962 marked FRIENDSHIP 7- ATLAS 6 1ST AMERICAN TO ORBIT JOHN H GLENN,JR OTHER SIDE JOHN F KENNEDY SPACE CENTER NASA AND SERIAL #495  Next one marked 1972  APOLLO XVII LAST APOLLO LUNAR MISSION   CERNAN, EVANS, SCHMITT  other side NASA  JOHN F KENNEDY  SPACE CENTER  serial # 495    Both have mark CM I  guess them? maker. I found the 1972 one but not the 1962 one. Anyone know about these?

Hello and welcome to Numista!

These are both tourist souvenir tokens that were sold at the Space Center.  CM is the mark of the mint that made them (maybe Columbia Mint?).  Here's one with the same reverse as one of yours but made for the National Air and Space Museum by the same mint.

N#142813

Certainly the dates on the tokens (at least the 1962 one) were not the dates they were minted.

Thank you for the welcome. I found that one, and it's exactly like mine on one side, but no serial number. Down below, it says Numista Rarity index: 97 what does that mean? I wonder if these were given to employees since both numbered  the same. I live in central Florida and got them at a garage sale.

The rarity index just means the number of Numista members that have that token in their collection.  In this case 97=1 member.  It is not meant to imply anything  about the value or ease of finding this token.  Imagine a token that nobody would ever want in their collection.  It would be worthless (to Numista members) but since no member had it it would have a Numista Rarity Index of 100.

Can you give us a weight, diameter and thickness of the tokens?

You could be right about the tokens being given to employees.

One is 15.14 grams and one 15.45 grams,  Both are 1 3/8 dia. 1/8th inch thick. I just was curious why on an extensive Google search I only found one similar to link above.

The CM is for Charleston Mint
