I would like to suggest we setup a tutorial for new members on Forum use and standards. The tutorial has to be completed prior to the new user being given access to the forum.
Some of the thing we can cover :
- Forum rules.
- More detail on what topics are cover by the different sections in the forum.
- How to submit coins for ID or valuation (2 clear pictures, etc)
- Behavioral standards
- etc
And after following the tutorial? Are we suddenly going to enforce the forum rules? We have a set of rules already and when someone doesn't abide to the rules, nothing really happens. I guess that this is a follow-up on your post about being nice to new members, but I'm afraid the problem is not with the new members, it's with some of the regulars around here. What we (or at least some people here) need is tighter moderation. I'm afraid a tutorial isn't going to help. New people with an actual collection will stick around and learn the ropes while they use the site. In general, questions about how to use the site and how to build a collection are answered with a certain enthusiasm. New people who are only interested in the value of a specific coin won't follow the tutorial with interest, but will try to find a way to complete it as fast as possible. Most of them will then create a post, if we're lucky with a picture or two, and won't come back after they've had their answer.
They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...
