Hello!

can you add some info - more than is obvious - on this silver token? What was it used for?

A hand, pointing at the word “ARGENT” on one side. Other 7 sides plain.

Here is one listed that has some history notes.

PROVINCIAL BANKS The development of the activity, born of the Industrial Revolution, caused the creation of banks of a new type, for all, called deposit banks. Banks were thus created in Bordeaux, Le Havre, Lille, Lyon, Marseilles, Nantes, Orleans, Rouen, Toulouse. In 1848, they were absorbed by the Banque de France which also created 47 branches in Montpellier, Saint-Étienne, Saint-Quentin, Reims, Avignon, Besançon, Angoulême, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Châteauroux, Caen, Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Le Le Mans, Valenciennes, Rennes, Nimes, Metz, Angers, Nevers, etc.

There are tokens similar to yours from other provincial banks like this one from d’Angoulême

Yes, this is my cat

The pointing hand is the privy mark of Ch.-Louis Dierickx , director of the Paris mint 1845-1860.
