Notgeld valuation

3 berichten • 91 keer bekeken

I recently purchased a group of notgeld coins, and along with them came a very interesting group of paper notgeld. I don't typically collect banknotes, but these were too nice to pass up.  The color and art on some of these are quite intriguing. A couple appear to be uncirculated.

Identification is pretty easy.  The issuer and value is right there to see, but I am curious how to evaluate what I have as far as rarity and value. What are the better online resources that banknote and/or notgeld collectors use?

Various 5/10/25/50 pfennig notes

There are 51 of the Eine Rentenmark and 22 of the Zwei Rentenmark notes.  All are circulated. If they were coins, I would probably grade most of them VF.

Casual collector, world coins by type.

Many of the colorful uncirculated notes are so called ‘Serienscheine’. They were usually not backed by anything, often came out after the withdrawal date printed on them and were just meant to make money from collectors. They were not really used as money and so most often are near UNC and relatively abundant.

Thanks.  That makes complete sense.
