I think 83EUR is quite a bit...

Hello there!

I might be interested in buying 2 graded consecutive StarNotes, but the seller asks for 83EUR. I'm pretty sure I can get a better price by making an offer, so I need to know: what would be a reasonable price for the whole set?

Thank you for your time!

I bought 20 dollar star note from 2005 for 35 euros in UNC condition. Crisp and would grade around 62.

Therefore, you can tell seller not to be a greedy ahole lol. Because these two common star banknotes + grading is not worth more than 45 dollars. 50 at best

One time I wanted to buy graded 1939 E 5 Reichsmark which is worth like 120 euros and the guy insisted on 200 because it was graded. He still didnt sell it. It has been 3 years since then.

Thanks a bunch! You are a life saviour!

Agree. 83 Euro is far too high. These are very common notes.

I think 50 is a very generous offer!

Typically, I don't like to comment on these posts b/c every collector should know that “if in doubt, walk away.”  Trust your instincts.  And if you've suggested as much, for eg: that the price is too high (& the seller hasn't responded) then walk.

Another thing to remedy doubt, is to use the vast # of tools at your disposal.  Numista's page on the $1.00 FRN provides extensive info on the issue.

Here's another excellent resource:

STAR NOTE LOOK UP

(is a great site to look up whether a star note is somewhat uncommon)

On a side note:

Remember that the BEP often prints runs of one to a hundred million star notes. Few star note series are under a million (& tough) unlike most nations. (By comparison, the Bank of Canada may have printed one run/prefix of star notes over 1 million for their past $1.00 series). NO nation matches the # of replacements the USA produces so some of these stars are more common than regular (non star) runs.  If you're okay with buying due to high demand (& ignoring the #'s) than forget all this.

And finally, if there's something else you want to find re: banknotes/numismatics, check out my:

I've never understood the phenomena of buying graded banknotes for 80 times its face value.

If it's UNC it's not more UNC just because you've paid someone 50 € (or whagever) to put it in a folder with a sticker saying “UNC”. Specially not these low value banknotes. But that's just me. I won't tell anyone what to do, but I would definitely keep my money and pass on these ones.

I agree with you and I am just like you. For my entire collection, I only have 3 notes that are graded. I bought the first 2 graded just for fun (solid nos notes of the same series), and the 3rd one was a hard to find note, and I bought it out of desperation, not to mention very expensive. I have my reason for buying this 3rd note as it was rare.

More and more dealers are now ventured into this side of the business, and as long as people are buying it, they will not go away overnight. Every time when I see notes that are graded for sale, I just walked away.
