Penin - Poncet St Joseph medallion

4 berichten • 78 keer bekeken

Good morning everyone,

I have this medallion featuring St Joseph / Jesus and an angel / Jesus.  It is almost identical to N#266827 with several differences:

- N #266827 has lettering approving it by Pope Pius X, where mine only has the engraver's name.

- The decoration is slightly different

- Mine is ~34mm diameter vs 18mm for the listed piece.

- Mine doesn't show any obvious evidence of a loop at the top.

Does anyone have any kind of reference for these please?  Maybe specifically, or perhaps Vatican issued medallions in general?

Have you found out anything more ?

Also, have you added it to the catalogue yet?  Even if you don't have any information about this item, it's still worth adding it to the catalogue.  Maybe someone will find it online and then add more information.

I haven't found out anything more I am afraid.  But thank you for the prompt to add this one to the catalogue!  I must confess I had forgotten, but I have added it now :)

It has been submitted and will be at: N#374645 once it has been approved.

I'm not sure if it was the right place, but in the comment, I noted that #266827 describes the reverse as "A guardian angel talking to the child Jesus", however the child (who appears older than the infant on the obverse) appears female to me.  Also, unlike the obverse, the child does not have a halo.

I didn't want to copy the exact information from the other piece when I felt it was possibly not correct, but I didn't want to put my own description and leave people unsure where the information came from - at least that indicates that the description is MY interpretation of the imagery.
