Question about my 2 Sears copper 1986 liberty tokens before I add them

I was taking my tiny little neodymium magnet and passing it over the tokens   am going to either submit or add that are already submitted, and my 2 1986 Sears tokens that are supposedly made from copper recycled from the statue of liberty are ever so slightly magnetic. Are they all this way? Are they not in fact just recycled copper and maybe some sort of alloy that is a little magnetic? I'm so confused. I have a much larger and thicker token that is also supposedly made using recycled statue of liberty copper materials and is not magnetic at all, even with the neodymium magnet right next to it. Anyone else have any ideas?

If you are referring to this item.

I would say that it is not 100% “actual material from the Statue of Liberty” so whatever the other percentage is, that is magnetic. Here is a link to a mini catalog  insert that shows many items that were for sale and contained “Authenic Material” but just a percentage. I did not see the token listed but it does prove only a percentage was used in other items.

One other option to consider is that the Statue of Liberty was a lighting rod and exposer to many lightning strikes could have magnetized the copper.  I lean toward my first answer though.

Copper, like silver, is diamagnetic meaning that if you move your neodymium magnet over the token you will feel a slight attraction.  A copper coin on a magnetic slide behaves in the same way a silver coin does, slides down slowly.  Lightning strikes (current) would not make copper ferromagnetic.

I have several of these and the reaction is more than a slight attraction. It will almost pick the token up. Drops off about half way up when attached to the edge.

Your explanation about the mixed metals is probably correct.
