John Pinches Medallions - Peter Scott's Birds of Britain

Can anyone tell me if this set of coins has any value above the silver value.

Set of thirty-five silver limited edition 'Peter Scott's British Birds' medallions by John Pinches, circa 1974, with certificates and in original presentation case, 2340g approx

I would always assume that precious metal coins and medallions have a some value over the direct silver content. How much obviously depends on how desirable the piece or set is.

Given the approx. weight you've given, it would have a spot price of about £1,350 today - just shy of £39 per medallion.

There's some listed on ebay as individual items at ~£60-£80 a piece (and someone trying to shift a set of them but without the display box for £1,800). HOWEVER, it is also worth noting that these are not sale prices, just asking prices and you can ask whatever you want - doesn't mean anyone will pay it. There doesn't seem to have been any sales of even individual coins recently on ebay. So, to me, that suggests these people are asking a bit too much for the collectors interested in it. But they wouldn't bother listing them if no-one was interested in them either. I would guess that it's a fairly niche market.

There are some easily viewable records from proper auction houses but they're 2013-19 so a bit out of date. It looks as though most of them have sold above the spot price of silver on the day. Some only just, some seemingly by a reasonable bit.

As such, I would say it does have some value more than it's pure metal content. But I'm afraid I can't tell you how much more.

Thank You for your help.
