No, I have a Civil War fake no dating back to 1864 for $100, what is its value?

If you post an image of your note someone ought to be able to put a value on it.

Hopefully, it won't have a serial number of 834 like this one from Ebay:

and the one on the Numista page: N#259455 which happens to be exactly the same.

Here's a real one:

Oh my goodness … I think it does , I’ll post pic tomorrow and please help me identify and thank you

How does it have the same serial number when I know for a fact it’s very old

How do you know it is very old?

These banknotes were mass produced for sales at many civil war museums. Yours was part of this set.  Thousands were made all with the same number, some with COPY on them, some without.

I bought a similar one but for Union banknotes about 15 years ago for $1.25.

Maybe you have the real No. 834.  Post pictures of both sides so we can see.

Well, it belonged to my late husband‘s, and he passed away 28 years ago. I assumed it belong to his great grandfather, because we never discussed it. I just found it among some of his things that I never went through recently.

I think your 834 does look like one of he replicas.

It's still a nice item to have, with good eye appeal.

Thank you , you are very kind

I agree with Hibernia.  On the back of the envelope I posted above is a 1995 date (28 years ago).  An expert would have to have the banknote in hand to be absolutely sure.  They would look for things like ink bleed through to the back, type of paper used, colors, etc.  I think you have a nice keepsake but it isn't authentic.  To answer your original question, here is a link to a web site showing estimates values for certified notes in different conditions.  Yours, if it were authentic, would fall in the $50 to $200 range.

You are so kind to give me all that information. Thank you so much. I hope you have a wonderful evening.

On most real obsolete banknotes, especially the ones with a blank reverse, the signature bleeds through to the reverse. The easiest way to check.
