Just found this in a bag of coins from Whitstable

in good condition too…

nice find. I am old enough to have used such public telephones in France and Italy. In the US, you used US dimes and quarters, no need to wait in line to negotiate for the PTTs.

Meanwhile, This came today,

since 50 years,  we have expressed this sentiment, and we are still pleading to keep it alive, without much hope!

This is another aweful period Franklin mint piece for the UN.

25 grams, 38mm.  Edge strié except for plain area with hall marks © (fm) (72) (P) STERLING

Another great find - it must be fantastic having the UN just round the corner.  Such unusual stamps, coins and other items readily available.

I found this yesterday too…

TSB (Trustee Savings Bank) was taken over by Lloyd's Bank in 1995.    This item is appropriate here in Kent, as Dickens spent much of his life living in Rochester and Broadstairs.  Again - red pencil is for a bit of colour.

As for the sentiment about the earth, I think the US electorate missed an opportunity in 2000/2001 to have someone in power who could have influenced the world towards taking a more greener approach.  I think most Europeans, including people in the UK, are a bit fearful about what the next election over there might bring.  Surely your choice can't be that limited.

Happy coin hunting

Greetings to all fans of the animal kingdom.

It's the time of children's summer holidays, the weather in Central Europe is rather strange, so visits to the ZOO are the solution to keep my grandchildren interested.

These increments are from three ZOOs, and the one I published in the past I tried not to put here, so this one wasn't here yet, but I could be wrong.

It's just great to see some animals that are already starting to disappear in the wild. Grandchildren love this walk.

Like Mr. Midnight I actually enjoy collecting Franklin Mint items. Here is what arrived this week. Finding all three of the silver series in this condition with the binders is no easy task. I do like the cars, but I like the logo's of the automakers on the reverse side is better to me. I hope to have them all added this week.

Those are great! 😎

I do mean to work in the catalog one of these nights. I think I have close to 100 FM pieces to add…😬

Found these yesterday…

Almost missed the half penny one.  Something didn't look quite right about it, so I checked it again and found it was a tourist commemorative token.

I received this one last week:

From the Marine Barracks in Brooklyn (CUNN NY50c) . The design on the obverse is made from the USMC letters.

Do you know what it was used for?  It doesn't look like an alternative to normal currency , unless it's only the size of a cent.

Hello, I didn't even notice that someone reacted - sorry.

No, it's not complete here - those were additions and unpublished. No, it's not complete here - those were additions and unpublished.

Click on Prague and you will see in the link how many exonumia they have in the ZOO.

I have many more of these ZOO tokens at home, but I have already presented them here in the past - I will see if I can find them tomorrow.

The 25 indicates it was valued at 25 cents (it's almost the size of a US half dollar).

Happy Saturday to all collectors.

,,If nothing happened, there would be no history,,

An hour ago, my younger son returned with two grandchildren from ZOO Brno.

Something happened for the first time (perhaps expected by me) -They brought me one medal from the ZOO, and the grandchildren are keeping all the other twelve for themselves.

talking to me: ,, Grandpa, we'll keep all of these for ourselves, we just brought you one,,

Today the world received two new passionate full members of the exonumia and possibly coin collecting community

( I gave each a small medal album and wished them good luck in their coin collecting)

Nice Jetons! I know the UK Cumberland Jack tokens were used as counters when playing the card game whist. Do you know how these were used?

Thanks. Used something like this, as they had no face value on them …

I got two items today -

Expo '70 Osaka Japan, silver medal. included in a set with two (copper-nickle) circulating 100 yen coins.

and this Franklin mint President -

This medal weighs 26.57 grams = 410 grains. This issue was numbered mine is 0781.

I have a full set of these issued for American Express on 500 grain planchets. They are not numbered.

Enclosed in one of American Express mailings (there were 12), was this interesting statement about the price of silver at that time (1970) -

Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac

Contemplating the data above,

using this US gov't inflation calculator

that means this 400 grain piece issued in 1967

cost $US78 in today's money.

Whereas each of these 500 grain pieces purchased in 1970

AmEx customers were getting for US$52 in 2023 terms.

Made by Simon van de Passe, circa 1630,

with the image of a monarch, length of reign, burial place and coat of arms.

Nearly 400 years old, and some lettering guessed.

The series title ‘Sovereigns of England’ refers to Sovereign as in Ruler, not Denomination.

It has arrived, and is smaller and thinner than was expected.

Maybe someone can help and find a list of the names of the 36 Sovereigns in the set.

Even better would be a list of the lettering on each, as some of it is difficult. Thanks :)
