Do you think it would be a great idea to have a blank version of Numista up on http://www.fosshub.com ?

It would be like Numista - but without the Numista branding & copyright information.

In my case, I would like to download such a program to showcase my own collection.

Aidan.

No. Also Numista is not a program where you click on an installer and install it on your computer, it's a data base with a forum and UI attached to it.

For your little collection you can use one of the countless blogging sites or website creation tools like Square Space etc to built your own web site.

My collection is not small - it is HUGE!

I have got thousands of banknotes & thousands of coins in my collection.

I know Xavier would think my idea is a good one - as it would be beneficial for other numismatists as well as for me.

Aidan.

It's small in comparison to millions of data entries Numista's data base is made for.

Mine is very specialised - & I want to create an educational resource about the British Empire & the British Commonwealth through using numismatics in the process.

Aidan.

So make your own website then

So make your own website then

Not so simple when one is not technically-minded.

Having a stand-alone program to install onto a domain would benefit those numismatists who are not technically-minded - not only me though.

Aidan.

So pay someone to make you a website then.

I don't understand why you think you're entitled to a blank copy of the entire website/code???

-Ash

Not happening.

Not happening.

You don't know that.

It is up to Xavier.

Aidan.

I know that, even if Xavier wanted to, Numista is not a program.

Yes, Numista is a program, which is being cloned to accomodate more languages.

Aidan.

Hello,

Adapting Numista for your own use case would certainly be as much work as creating a new website from scratch.
I believe the best way would be to store your collection on Numista and build a website using the Numista API. This would still require development from you (or someone else) though. I just found about https://www.numistar.com/ recently, which might be what you are looking for (I didn't try and I have no opinion on it for the moment).

I have a friend who wants to do his own Numista-like program in English, Portuguese, & Spanish to showcase his own collection - especially of Brazilian & Portuguese coins, as he is originally from Brazil, but lives here in New Zealand

In my case, I would be doing mine in English only for the British Empire - & storing the photos in the cloud.

Aidan.

Sorry, but you really don't have a clue. First of all, Numista is not a program, Numista is a website. For this website to run, you'll need specific hardware and software. Second, it is not being cloned to accomodate more languages, the multilingual part is stored in the database. And third, Xavier has been working on this website since 2007. Why would he put up a blank version for everyone to use? Did you already contact Mark Zuckerburg to put up a blank version of Facebook on Fosshub to create your own social network?

What you ask is not only really, really dumb, but also insulting to all the hard work that Xavier put in this website.

They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...

It isn't dumb or insulting.

Some of the information about the British Empire, especially in numismatics, is not even being presented correctly - one case in point - Ireland.

Yes, it's both dumb and insulting. If you think you can build a better car than Ferrari, do you ask them for the blueprints? If you think you can bake better bread than your baker, do you ask for the recipe? If you don't see how dumb your question is by now, there is no point in arguing.

I suggest that an admin puts a little lock on this thread.

NOT true!

It isn't my fault that I know more about the British Empire & the British Commonwealth through numismatics - & that I want to see the facts presented correctly - such as the Republic of Ireland being declared on 18 April 1949, not in 1937, as some people claim.

Aidan.

This leads nowhere really.

Catalogue administrator

Pay someone to make your own website and stop asking for a blank version of this one because it's not going to happen how you think it will.

I recommend this thread be locked.

Frankly it's utter bizarre and insane a user who has been on this website for so long is even asking this.

I just checked out Fosshub and it's literally just a place to download programs and programs only.

This is a website. Websites aren't programs (but i'm guessing you've already been told that.)

Google isn't a program, Youtube isn't a program either there's no such thing as a blank website as a program.

You're actually this clueless?

You have noticed there's no websites on Fosshub because websites aren't programs right? You do know what a program is right?

@domandrenog  & @rodrigo.queiroz , have you thought about cloning Numista, then altering it for your own projects?

Aidan.

That's too big of a project! @BCNumismatics

I'm building something focused on specific pain points: better metrics and statistics, improved tracking for large collections, and better ways to visualize your collection data. Using Numista's API and exports means it could easily work alongside or integrate with their platform.

When you have thousands of coins, the current tools get limiting pretty fast. That's what I'm trying to solve — making large collection management actually practical.

The migration tool is just the starting point!

Isnt that theft of intellectual property? Not to mention disrespectful to the developers of Numista and all the loyal members who appreciate this wonderful website!

But I’m sure you knew that already, because instead of sending such a message privately, you openly revisit a forum post where everyone disagreed with you and your ideas, for what I can only imagine is to stir up anger or to continue this pointless debate whilst getting your kicks in trying to cause conflict.

Makes no sense "theft of intellectual property" when someone is managing its own data (exporting from a website and importing to another).

I have no intention of making a paralel website, I don't have time for that…

Another point is that I'm using the Numista API, that was made and set public so that anyone can develop a web application using it.

Infact I would say that cloning the website would probably be a breach of the Terms of Use

Section 12.2. Ownership of NUMISTA’s intellectual property rights

The User acknowledges the intellectual property rights of the Operator on the Platform, its components and the contents related to it and waives to contest these rights in any form whatsoever.

The trademarks, logos, slogans, graphics, photographs, animations, videos, software solutions and texts and any other content on the Platform, with the exception of the Content published by the Collectors, are the exclusive intellectual property of NUMISTA and may not be reproduced, used or displayed without express authorisation, or otherwise face legal proceedings.

Any display or reproduction, total or partial, of the Platform and its contents, by any process whatsoever, without the prior express authorisation of NUMISTA, is prohibited and will constitute an infringement punishable by the provisions of the French Intellectual Property Code.

In particular, the Operator expressly forbids:

  • The extraction, by permanent or temporary transfer of all or a qualitatively or quantitatively substantial part of the content of its database on another medium, by any means and in any form whatsoever;
  • Reuse, by making available to the public all or a qualitatively or quantitatively substantial part of the contents of the database, in any form whatsoever;
  • Reproduction, extraction or reuse, by any means, including methods similar to scrapping of content (photographs, descriptions, etc.) published by the Operator or by a Collector.

Acceptance of these Terms of Use implies that the Users acknowledge NUMISTA's intellectual property rights and undertake to comply with them.

The Operator grants a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to the Users authorising them to use the Platform and the information it contains in accordance with these ToU.

Any other use of the Platform and its contents is excluded from the scope of this license and cannot be made without the prior express authorisation of the Operator.

Stop waisting your time in a fantasy that you created in your own head.. you are seeing ghosts.

I'm not sharing any numista data, I'm taking my PERSONAL ucoin data and inputing it in numista, that's all.

You are living in a paranoia.

@Xavier knows about it, if you have any doubts, talk to him.

Both me @King and @flyingredpander were replying to @bcnumismatics, you haven’t done anything wrong.

@Xavier , have you ever heard of a copyleft licence?

Just read this … https://en.numista.com/forum/topic136896.html#p1100108

Nobody is going to make you a website just like that … you'll need to make it yourself (or pay someone to do it for you).

Please just stop dude, you can't just steal/clone/whatever numista's code and alter it just because you linked a wikipedia page of some nonsense. Pay someone to make your website for you or just use numista as intended.

I implore any moderator or admin reading this, to lock this thread. This is getting ridiculous.
