Need help with what looks like notgeld stamp-money

5 berichten • 99 keer bekeken

I recently acquired this item:

N#271053

which clearly is not a stamp. My copy is unused, on thicker paper, and has no gum on the back.

The description in the link above clearly says that the Type is “local banknote.”

I am a collector of world paper money and in my extensive collection (6000+ different notes) I have many Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish (on cardboard disks), Serbian (removed from the original paper backing), and Turkish (also removed from the backing) issues of stamps used as small change money.

Am I correct in considering the 2 pfennig item in the link as Bavarian “paper money”? I believe I also saw 1 and 5 pfennig items somewhere.

Can someone knowledgeable about this tell me more?

Frank

Though I am not an expert particularly on German Notgeld, I can offer this knowledge. Issuers of currency at times issue small denominations of currency, most often fractional denominations, as “postage stamp” currency. Here are a few examples:

N#294434

N#220494

N#285781

Depending on the issuer and laws at the time, it could be used as a postage stamp as well as currency or just as currency.

Thanks for the reply. I am still hoping for someone knowledgeable about this issue of Notgeld stamp-money.

I am an avid collector of stamp-money and I have many duplicates for trade:

French Ivory Coast (have full set of 3)

Russia, Imperial (have 9 of 11)

Spain (have 14 of 64)

Serbia (have 6 of 7, but all are missing the required backing paper)

Turkiye (have 2 of 3, but both are missing the required backing paper)

Ukraine (have 4 of 6)

USA (have 1 of 4 imperforated0

Greece (need the 1 issue)

French Guinea (need all 3)

French Madagascar (need all 38)

French New Caledonia (need all 7)

Russia, civil war (need all 22)

USA (need all 4 perforated)

Wouldn't stamp money need to be made with postage stamps? This is not a stamp just made in a similar manner to produce large quantities s of low value scrib cheaply.

Except for the USA, all the nations that I listed, with the number of stamp-money issues, used stamps.

The USA issues look like stamps in that they have a perforated version.

My whole list are P-number issues in the Catalog of World Paper Money, Volume 2,  in case you wish to check.
