Quality of PMG money holders question [opgelost]

Hi,

I noticed one interesting thing when i very recently puchased one graded banknote. If you click on the image below, In PMG database banknote obviously has this nice white paper color (left side), while the one i got has slightly yellowish tint (right side). It is same banknote for sure, I know it may be due to materials in plastic that PMG uses, banknote is not a fake 1000%, tested under UV. Do you, other collectors, have similar issues with some of your banknotes? I can still return it if it is really a big deal (which i think may not be :-)). Banknote is otherwise grade 65, super nice.

I seldom buy graded stuff, so i am just wondering whether to buy raw banknote and put it in my own holder of known good quality :-).

Thanks a lot.

First question. Is the grade 65 or 65EPQ?

[Just looked this up on pmg website – 65 always has EPQ, so ignore this question]

The difference in appearance may be due to the quality of the scans.

The appearance of an image will vary between different scanners, especially if the scanner software is allowed to optimise the image by applying adjustments.

The plastic used to encase certified notes does not distort the appearance of the note in my experience. So, assuming that neither note has been cleaned or washed, then the difference in appearance can be attributed to the scan.

If you post a link to the pmg image, I can take a look at it and see if I can tell if it has been adjusted in an image editing program to remove a colour cast or to make it brighter.

Ok. Thanks for reply, i will put first PMG website scan, standard black background (without unnecessary details on top):

Same banknote, scan from seller

Banknote checks under UV light, 100% genuine, microfeatures are same, holder is not tampered with, banknote is not tampered with, no way, I would see that on corners.

So i see what you mean, you think sellers scanner is having “bad” image postprocessing and probabily doesnt faithfully translate colors, saturation and contrast into image. It would take me some time to adjust saturation, brightness and contrast in some photo editing software to make these images “identical” to a good degree.

I would just like to eleminate image editing of some sort before i get banknote in my hands soon. It is not an expensive banknote, but honesty of seller is what matters more :-). Has good reviews and seems very cooperative and knowledgeable.

The difference in appearance may be due to the quality of the scans.

Nobody can tell you for certain as we can't examine it in person, but I think Hibernia is likely correct (different scanner settings).

PMG holders, as far as I know, are vacuum sealed (like BCS holders). That's 1 of the reasons Third Party Graded (TPG) notes have become so popular recently - its preservation.

Older light green PCGS holders, on the other hand, can be terrible (overly large, open ended, etc) so notes could deteriorate under poor (humid) conditions. Their new white holders are so much better.

Of course, i do understand they are vaccum sealed and heat crimped. And i do realize some banknotes that i really like, I want to have graded, the rest can just be sleeved. And my purchase is more like a test purchase before i decide to maybe invest a bit more in some things that i like.

I have checked these new PCGS holders, they look quite nice, i dont encounter them as much in EU for now, so definitely i will pay attention to that.

Yeah, i got the banknote in hands, looks great, pristine, scan was pretty crappy and i got scared that i wasted a bit money. Thank you all for valuable input :-).
