Penny changed into Exonumia or Something else? [opgelost]

I came across a very very worn 1884 Victoria Penny today and its been changed into some other purpose which I find rather intriguing but so far not come across its purpose… Google is throwing up some really odd things!

The impressed / stamped numbers and writing has obviously been there for a number of years looking at the script used and also the wearing / depth / darkness its not freshly done…

One side has 1 ¾ Chain Line stamped into it the other side (portrait side) has numbers 254953 stamped into it.

Anybody point me in the right direction to find out about this 1 ¾ Chain Line… a company or something?

Maybe something to do with Chain Survey ???

Amateur coin collector with some tokens

Thanks :) will go have a nosy see what that brings up

So after a long night of studying and a few phone calls this morning to the Ordinance Survey people in Southampton to ask questions unfortunately they were not able to access the information but did give me some brilliant information pointers.

The coin date 1884 gave the year to look at an old OS map.

The coin being English the country.

The first three digits gives you a marked area of the country on the 1884 land surveys (ie a block to work in)

The last three digits gives you the reference point.

Survey was for a field in the county of Lincolnshire, on high zoom in you can see the actual field but for location you have to zoom out and I took a snapshot of the entry point to the field marked with a red spot.

What an interesting way of doing things.
