Looks like a Mughal empire coin I had one fairly similar that I swapped to Phil he was researching it but I can't remember the outcome

Searched Mughal on Numista and didn't see that coin.

I.P.S.? maybe... or some other Indian stuff. Looks more Persian though.

Mogul I reckon. The Numista catalog is far from complete.

I've been doing a bit of research into older Indian coins recently and had a lot of success using Google Images. It's usually possible to find a coin with enough similarities to identify the Ruler or State and from there it gets easier. Many of the images link to specialist sites.

Mark, I remember the coin well. I sent you a message months ago once I had it identified: Mohammad Akbar Badshah Rupee from the Urdu Zafar Qarin mint 1556-1605.
