Hello everyone.

I do have a Nicaragua 1 Centavo 1991 issued note . As I checked note details on this site I noticed that note has a water mark which is Number 1 but my note does not have a water mark like that and this note they have issued in 1991 only,. So I just want to know the note which im having is a forge note or not.

Did you look at your banknote under UV lighting?

Yeah that's not a watermark.

Yes I checked the note under UV lighting and there is no watermark but the note which is posted on Numista website has a watermark under UV lighting . I do have a 10 Centavo note also which I can see the watermark under UV lighting.  I'm confused whether this 1 centavo note is a forge or another series printed without watermarks but Numista site mentioned the relevant notes printed in 1991 only.

I think it should be a watermark which we can see under UV lighting because I do have a 10 Centavo note also which I can see the watermark under UV lighting .

Maybe it would help if you posted a picture of your banknote?

A watermark is a feature of the carrier material, the paper being thinner at certain places letting through more light so you can see an image. While the UV device ('1') is printed on said paper.

Depending on the condition of your note, because the UV feature is printed, it can wear away over time.

Some lower denominations from these countries also have print runs without the UV feature printed. Sometimes this gets documented in the catalogues & other times it doesn't. I've seen this question before on low value notes.

Low denominations like 1 Centavo almost never get copied so likely genuine but either in poor condition or the UV 1 did not get printed.
