Old Paper Currency from 1961 Kronur

6 berichten • 152 keer bekeken

I came across some old paper currency from trips I took to Iceland years ago and I don’t know if they have any value or not.  The denominations range from 100 - 5000 notes.  Any suggestions or help in this matter is greatly appreciated.  Thank you

The highest value note, the 5000K, due to condition is only worth about US$20-30 (catalog value). The rest drop in price from there. The notes are demonetized so they are no longer legal tender. Since many collectors thumb their nose at non-UNC notes, there is a smaller crowd that would love to have these notes in their collection. Still, you don't see these notes on a regular basis, and there are people that would like them including myself. They may have more sentimental value than monetary value to you, so you need to consider that. If you wanted to trade them, you would have them gone in an hour. If you want to maximize what you can get out of them, look to ebay. They are very nice notes despite their circulated condition.

The old kronur became the new kronur around 1980, 100 old for 1 new kronur. So your notes would be face value wise 5 and 10 kronur, except now the new kronur is also inflated and its 150 kronur to 1 US$. So face value wise the notes are worth 10 cents. Collector value would be much more.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

These have no circulating value, as they are completely demonetized and are not exchangeable, but they do have some collector value
