2022 Niue Two Dollars-No Info

7 berichten • 226 keer bekeken

Hello, I have a 2022 Elizabeth Niue silver coin with Independence Hall on the reverse. I looked in the catalogs but cannot any info on the coin. The coin looks to be a proof and is about 39.8mm in diameter and weighs 1 oz.  - i would like to know if the coin is rare and the value and maybe where to find info on the coin. Thank you for your efforts and regards To all.

Does the round piece of alloy also have a second side? Please show us.

Yes, seeing the other side might help.  At the very least it's worth its weight in silver (1 oz.  US $30.40 today).

But to be honest, considering the amount of “coins” Niue produces (at least 780 types in 2022 alone) none of them are considered rare and very few, other than those graded MS69 or 70, sell for above melt value (other than the initial sale from the mint).

It is probably relatively low mintage, but it is ultimately unlikely to ever be worth much more than 1 oz of silver.  Niue is an abomination to the coin world and only makes stuff like this to sell for a profit.

The issue is they aren't even making the stuff, it's made all around the globe never to set foot on this rock, they don't even have/use their own money anyway.

Those “coins” are basically Exonumia, so they can never be scarce!

If I make my own one ounce silver "coin" then my costs are of course the silver, the engraving and the minting, but it's made in only ONE exemplary, so it's extremely rare, but since nobody wants it, it just on the low side of bouillon value (-15%). It's easy to understand, isn't it?

As the others have said: it's little more than an ornament.

Numista's catalogue isn't complete or perfect, especially when it comes to things like this which are issued by a for-profit private “mint” rather than a national mint.

These types of things are churned out at such speed its near impossible to keep up, but also on because they hold so little interest to most collectors, there's little incentive for people to add them into community built sites like this one.

For silver “coins” produced under the authority of Niue, Numista has over 550 known designs for 2022 alone. Imagine how many we don't know about, like yours.

Is it rare, yes probably. These private “mints” often produce them in incredibly low numbers.

However, rare does not mean valuable. It's only valuable if people want it, and as I say, these mints churn out loads of designs a year. Is that design desirable? Who knows.

Probably not, otherwise you'd probably find someone offering it for sale.

It does of course have intrinsic value being 1oz silver, so you should at least get around that value for it if nothing else.

If you want more information on the coin, maybe see if you can find out which mints nominally operated in Nuie for that year or look for ones which might have formed part of a series. Then contact that mint, they might have some records to give you more detail.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Numista. Always feel free to ask questions - we'll do our best to answer them (eventually… 😛).
