Expert advice needed- error coin?

Errors are coins produced at the mint that are different than the normal coin. There is nothing in the minting process that could produce what your coin has. It's PMD (post mint damage) not a mint error.

What could you turn a 1955 D into that has a high value?

 Is it 1955 or a 1935 - apart from Mint letter?

Either way, yes, what was it to be changed to?

I believe 1955.   The 3 and 5 in 1935 are much more rounded.
