Mixed Countries Coin

4 berichten • 98 keer bekeken

Hi there - new to the group thanks for the help.

I have picked up this coin in a market, it was different because it had conflicting dates on each side. Is this even a legit coin I wonder?

Obverse

Portrait of Vasco Núñez de Balboa facing left. Name of the country above, date below. As per this Panama coin.

Reverse

Crowned imperial eagle, legend around - As per this German coin.

The weirdest thing is I found another that has mixed sides (different again, 5Francs/4Reales), so I am wondering if there was an attempt to forge them or if they are even real. I can post the other photos too if anyone is interested.

Any advice appreciated thanks.

Cheers,

Steve

The forgers just got sloppy or had some fun with it. It also more likely a die for aN#14339 unless someone glued two halves of coins together (but it's 99% the former).

Hello and welcome to Numista!

Actually it's this coin:  N#14339

Somebody machined out the obverse of the 5 Mark coin, machined down the Panama coin and joined them together.  Looks like there a gap between the the two along here:

Thanks for the prompt replies. I had no idea that was a thing! Makes sense now, this other odd-ball is probably the same.

Cheers,

Steve
