Came across this posting, and have not been able to identify the square coin (?). The seller is not knowledgable around coins, but claims it is swedish (like the other round coins). No more information has been provided.

I have put in every combination of search queries here on numista and google without any luck. Using the image search function provided no good results, probably due to the extensive wear.

Any experts here on heavily worn (maybe) swedish square coins here? 😅

There are some square swedish coins, even on Google

I am aware of “klippingar“ and copper plate coins, however none of those in the numista database, nor on google, look like the one in the images.

I believe I can make out “EUREN”, and two figures on the opposite side.

Might it be a religious token? It does have a hole where it could have been fastened to a necklace.

On the side with the two figures, and this may just be me, but I think the right figure has wings. They also look slightly hunched as though they're speaking to the left figure. Instructing or teaching them perhaps?

Honestly, I have no idea but that's what I see in it. Curious to see what others say.

I think it might have been used decoratively, but not originally. Note where the hole is. If it were worn as eg. a necklace it would hang on its side which seems odd.

I think the visible text says “EHREN”, german for “to honor”. My german is not good enough to know of any terms or concepts with the word ehren typically found on coins or religious tokens…

Looks like IN lettering above it

IN EHREN =  in honour

IN EUREN =  in your

which are German words, so may not be Swedish.

with a magnifying glass, can you decipher :

Alles in Ehren Kann niemand wehren

?

Referee of south atlantic islands

There seems to be a woman and a man on one side maybe it's :

Einen Kuss in Ehren Kann niemand wehren.

This joking saying can already be found in 17th century collections of proverbs and was further popularized by Albert Lortzing's opera Der Waffenschmied.

I think we have an answer! “Einen Kuss in Ehren Kann niemand wehren” plus the two kissing figures makes the most sense. The quote plus medaille, münze, and schmuck gives no results, but my curiosity has been satisfied.

@Frenchlover I have not bought the coins, and probably wont; the seller is demanding €250 because “they are old” 😅

Yes, well done. The last word might be longer, to make it fit better below the others

“Einen Kuss In Ehren Kann Niemand Verwehren”

though also can not yet see the first word on there, as it is rather worn.

“Ein Kuss In Ehren Kann Niemand Verwehren”

Not sure if it was made with that loop, or someone added it -

which might explain why the original item was pieced to hang it.

Now found a much better condition example >

On right looks like a chimney sweep, to bring good luck I think in some traditions.
