Hi.

Can someone please help me identify this Indian coin.

I've looked everywhere on the web but to no avail.

If someone can help me out in identifying this coin, it would help me alot.

Thanks

Hyderabad paisa, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan i.n.o. Asaf Jah, Nizam al-Mulk, AH 1285-1329  = AD 1869-1911, Farkanda Bunyad mint

Here's a similar coin if you account for different striking positions, dies, and wear

Your coin is in better condition than the one shown in Zeno.

In future, it's very helpful to include weights with ID requests. Your coin should weigh about 10.8 grams.

And it's a nice opportunity to create your first coin page in the database 😀

Thank you all for your help n support.

I have a doubt though…on the coin on Zeno, the lettering on both the sides is vertical, whereas on the coin I have….one side the lettering is vertical and the other side is horizontal….I am a bit confused.

The weight of the coin is 10.65 gms….sorry I should have given this earlier.

Thanks

I believe the striking orientations on these coins were pretty random.

Oh I see….thanks.

Hi…I have one more coin of similar nature but the orientation of this coin is horizontal.

Can you please tell me if this is the same coin as above or if this is a different coin.

Thanks.

The coins are similar, but somewhat different. I didn't find a match for the second one in Zeno. However, on the lower right corner of the first photo is a date, which appear to be possibly 1291 (it's a bit hard to make out the third and fourth digits). If it's AH 1291 that would put it during the reign of the same ruler as the first coin, and the weight is similar. Krause's South Asian Coins and Paper Money shows Mir Mahbub Ali Khan's paisas vary considerably, so my opinion is that this second coin is probably classified the same way as the first.  As mentioned above, the orientation is not a distinguishing consideration for this type of coin.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply….appreciate it a lot.

I have posted requests for some more coins that I have…if you can have a look at those coins also…it would be great.

Thanks a lot
