I have two (somewhat worn) examples of Saudi 1 Riyal banknotes with signatures that don't appear to match those in the catalogue. Can anyone help me accurately identify these banknotes ? Please note the additional mark under the left hand signature of my top banknote (?), as well as the right hand signatures on both banknotes which are different to those pictured on the catalogue page (below).
Yours are P#21d. The year line says, “signature 6.” I have no idea what that means since it's not explained anywhere. The “additional mark under the left hand signature” is an abbreviation for "acting." This will help: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/countries/ASI/SAR/SAR0021.htm
When you see signature number then it comes most likely from the km catalog and somebody was lazy and didn't add the actual names.
Is there an online link to the KM catalogue? Does it cost anything to access online? Why can't this link be added to pages such as this? Why are we relying so much on some other catalogue's data? Do the recent changes to Numista include a process for correcting such oversights? etc. etc. etc.
Linking to external websites for variant explanations should be the last thing to be done.
Numista relies on all kind of reference works like Wikipedia (some general works like KM are just way more popular/convenient then others) we accumulate information from all kind of sources and original research should only be a very minute portion of that (for many reasons).
No the last update has nothing to do with signatures.
Numista is a collaborative work, if you see mistakes or missing data, spit in your hands roll up your sleeves and go fix or add them.
In case of missing signatures you can use other reference works or your own research and compile a list with all the names, date ranges and (preferably cropped) signature pictures and post them in a thread with the flag 'Request about signatures on banknotes' in the Numista banknote catalogue forum
