Question about entering coins of unknown date into your collection

5 berichten • 42 keer bekeken

I recently got a coin in Poor condition.  I could read enough of the obverse text and see which way the head was facing to get me in the right vicinity, and then the diameter of the coin got me the rest of the way there for a positive ID.  But the reverse is totally gone - worn smooth… And that's where the date was.  I still want to put this coin into my collection (it's got silver in it, and it will be my oldest coin to date), but I'm not sure how.  Numista makes you pick a year, but I obviously don't know which year it is.  How do you handle this when entering a coin of an unknown year?  Do you just put it as the oldest or youngest year?  The middle year? This particular coin had a 20-year run.

Without pictures, it will be very difficult for anyone to help you. Could you please post clear pictures of each side of your item?

You pick Undetermined if you don't know the year.

I just found it!  Thank you!  I always use the button next to the individual year, so I never saw that before.  Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

You can use the button to the right, too. Just go to the top of the drop down.
